1933 NY Yankees Team-Signed Baseball with Babe Ruth & Lou Gehrig
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $4,350.00
Reach OAL (Barnard) baseball is signed in black ink by twenty-one members of the 1933 New York Yankees: Babe Ruth ("8"), Lou Gehrig ("7"), Herb Pennock, Ben Chapman, Johnny Allen, Jimmie Burke, Charlie Devens, Lefty Gomez, Frank Crosetti, Tony Lazzeri, Sam Byrd, Cy Perkins, Lyn Lary, Eddie (Doc) Farrell, Bill Dickey, Joe Sewell, Earle Combs, Dan MacFayden, Cy (Wilcy) Moore, Russ Van Atta, and Dixie Walker. All signatures are very legible, ranging in grade from "5" to "8" (averaging a "6/7" overall). On the sweet spot is penned "New York Yankees 1932" in vintage black ink. Russ Van Atta and Dixie Walker were not on the Yankee roster in 1932, which leads us to believe this ball may have been signed during spring training. Paced by Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, the Yankees led the American League in both home runs and runs scored in 1933. Their pitching staff, however, would fail to measure up, and they finished seven games behind the first place Washington Senators. Despite the minor condition flaws, both the Ruth and Gehrig signatures display extremely well. The ball was long ago coated with a moderate layer of protective shellac which has somewhat yellowed over time; it is otherwise in Very Good condition. This is a very presentable mid-grade 1930s Yankees team ball with a particularly strong and impressive side-panel Ruth signature. LOAs from Mike Gutierrez/GAI and James Spence & Steve Grad/PSA DNA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $4,350.00
