500 Home Run Club Signed Baseball Set Including Ruth, Foxx, and Ott (3)

Starting Bid - $5,000.00, Sold For - $18,560.00

This lot includes three baseballs: one single-signed by Ruth; one signed by sixteen modern 500 home run hitters; and one signed by thirteen major early Hall of Famers including key 500 Home Run Club members Jimmie Foxx and Mel Ott, with ideal placement of those two key signatures allowing for perfect simultaneous display. The accomplishment of 500 home runs is one of the greatest and rarest individual achievements in baseball, with only twenty players having ever accomplished the feat. No baseball in existence has the signatures of all twenty 500 Home Run Club members. The three baseballs offered in this lot, however, together represent the entire elite fraternity of 500 home run hitters to date with the exception of Ken Griffey Jr. A total of thirty signatures grace the surfaces of these balls. Though some aren't members of the 500 Home Run Club on one ball, all are prominent Hall of Famers. The three balls are as follows: 1) Official American League (Harridge) baseball is beautifully personalized and single-signed by Babe Ruth ("8") on a side panel as follows: "To Bill Marks From Babe Ruth." 2) Official American League (Brown) baseball with sixteen signatures, all "500 Home Run Club" members: Williams and Mantle appear on the sweet spot; the side panels include McGwire, Murray, Schmidt, Jackson, Palmiero, Mays, McCovey, Killebrew, Banks, Robinson, Mathews, Bonds, Aaron, and Sosa. All of these signatures are very crisp, grading "9" to "10" overall. Only the signature of Ken Griffey Jr. is needed on the ball featuring modern players to complete the "500 Home Run Club" set. 3) Official National League (Frick) ball with thirteen Hall of Famer signatures. Of greatest importance with reference to the "500 Home Run Club" set are the inclusion of Mel Ott ("8") and Jimmie Foxx ("7/8"). Foxx is on the sweet spot and Ott is adjacent, near the sweet spot. This is a very special, unique, and ideal placement, as these two key "500 Home Run Club" signatures can be displayed together. The additional eleven signatures on the ball are each also very desirable high-caliber Hall of Famers: Ed Walsh, Ty Cobb, Cy Young, Rogers Hornsby, Fred Clarke, Tris Speaker, Kid Nichols (placed tightly against stitching), Pie Traynor , George Sisler, Chas. Gehringer, and Mickey Cochrane. The signatures range in grade from "6" to "8," averaging a "7" overall. Each of the three balls in this lot individually is an extraordinary signed baseball. Each can always be sold individually, but together they represent a unique signature collection and tribute to baseball's exclusive "500 Home Run Club." Total 3 balls. LOAs from Mike Gutierrez/GAI and James Spence & Steve Grad/PSA DNA. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000/$15,000. SOLD FOR $18,560.00
