Circa 1880s National Sport Cigar Box

Extremely rare nineteenth-century cigar box with a gorgeous full-color baseball label on the underside lid. The lithographed label pictures a scene of a base runner and catcher with an umpire standing directly behind them. The bottom of the label reads "Smoke National Sport Cigars." Part of the same lithograph adorns an outer side of the box. The interior label is in Excellent condition and the box itself is in Good to Very Good condition, with a slightly warped lid. Dimensions: 8.75 x 5 x 2.75. This is the only example of this magnificent box we have ever seen. This box was once a part of the Barry Halper Collection. It appeared as Lot #241 in the famous Halper auction and sold at that time for $3,105. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $4,640.00
