Circa 1905 Home Run Cigar Tin
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $3,480.00
Beautiful and extremely colorful tin for "Home Run" cigars features a very detailed and exciting game-in-progress scene on both sides. The tin canister, which once held fifty cigars, was manufactured by the Federal Tin Company of Baltimore, Maryland. We believe the "Home Run" tobacco brand may have been regionally issued in Pennsylvania, based on the Pennsylvania factory and tobacco tax references included in the tin's elaborate design. This is a gorgeous tobacco tin, one of the most striking of all generic baseball advertising pieces of the era. Grades an "8" on a scale of "1" to "10." Some minor pinpoint spotting and tiny scratches, as is usually the case with early tins, but none interfere with its design or spectacular display value. This is the first example of this exceptional rarity we have ever seen. Our consignor purchased this "Home Run" tobacco tin many years ago in an auction devoted exclusively to rare tobacco and advertising tins. Diameter: 4.25 inches. Height: 6 inches. Excellent condition. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $3,480.00
