Circa 1880s Villeroy & Boch Large Baseball Plate

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,392.00

Extraordinary circa 1880s Villeroy & Boch plate. The most highly prized of all early baseball china pieces are the nineteenth-century pieces produced by famed German manufacturer Villeroy & Boch. Over the years we have seen only a few pieces from this rare series (a cup and a small plate). This is the first charger plate we have ever seen, featuring an extraordinary illustration of batter and catcher. As the largest and most ideal display piece of the set, it is the premier Villeroy & Boch baseball china piece, and one of the most exquisite and beautiful of all nineteenth-century generic baseball display pieces. "Villeroy & Boch" stamp and imprint on reverse. Diameter: 12.5 inches. Mint condition. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,392.00
