Nineteenth-Century Baseball Figural Business Card Holder

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $580.00

Rare silver-plated metal baseball figural business card holder, designed to be placed on a desk. The card holder is designed with a ballplayer in uniform with a bat on his shoulder standing behind the business card holding compartment. There is no date but the manufacturer's logo stamping on the bottom in high relief appears to read "G. H. Art Manup & Co. N. Y. Triple Plate." It is very interesting to note that the ballplayer figure on this piece is identical to that which appears on the baseball inkwell produced by the Simpson, Hall & Miller Company. Minor surface wear from handling and some tarnishing, otherwise in Excellent condition. This is a magnificent and extremely rare baseball figural piece dating from the 1880s to 1890s. Dimensions of base: 3.5 x 2.25 inches. Height: 3.25 inches. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $580.00
