1913 Baseball Managers Fans (2)
Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $1,276.00
Two souvenir baseball fans, each identical in style with scorecard design in center, featuring portraits of the manager of each of the sixteen teams of the Major Leagues superimposed over caricature bodies, which relate in some amusing way to the team's name. For example, Nap Lajoie of the "Naps" is dressed and posed as Napoleon, Fred Clarke of the Pirates is dressed up as a Pirate with a bandanna and a wooden leg, etc. Managers include Jennings, Griffith, Lajoie, McGraw, Mack, Tinker, Evers, Chance, Clarke, Huggins, etc. Each of the two fans has a different advertisement printed on the reverse ("Shiro's Home Made Taffy" and "Geo. H. Juve General Store"). One fan has a small tear at the top (which appears to be restored) and a tiny chip at top, otherwise Vg-Ex. The other fan is in Vg-Ex condition with the scorecard very lightly scored in pencil and neatly erased. Both fans have original wood handles and display beautifully with overall Excellent appearance. These fans were sold as advertising premiums to small business establishments, with custom advertising printed on reverse. Two examples of one of the best and most beautifully designed of all baseball fans. Fan dimensions: 9.25 x 8.75 inches. Handle length: each 6 inches. Total 2 fans. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $1,276.00
