1920s Babe Ruth Carnival Figurine

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,160.00

This unusual 1920s lightweight composite material statue of Babe Ruth was most likely awarded as a carnival prize. In the "old days" when traveling carnivals were very popular in America, prizes such as these motivated youngsters (and parents) to play the deceptively simple carnival games in the hopes of winning figures of various styles. As we do not have to report to anyone who is old enough to have attended an old-fashioned carnival, there were few winners. The painted figure is holding a bat at his side and is dressed in a gray uniform lettered "Babe Ruth" across the chest in green. Ruth's feet are oversized, like those of a clown. Lightly chipped in places but in very good condition overall. Dimensions: 14 inches in height. Reserve $200. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,160.00
