Circa Late 1930s Chicago Cubs Welcome Banner

Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $2,320.00

Enormous blue linen banner with red trim (approx. 10 x 3 feet) is lettered "Welcome - Chicago Cubs" in white cloth with two bear "Cubs" on opposite ends of the banner. Anchored inside the hem, at the banner's upper two corners, are leather straps for hanging, each with a "button-hole" slit obviously intended to attach to suspending hooks. Visiting clubs in Philadelphia would often stay at the Hotel Benjamin Franklin. This banner once hung in the lobby of the Hotel Benjamin Franklin, and was designed to acknowledge the accommodation of these distinguished visitors in the 1930s. Extremely impressive and well made. Excellent condition. Ideal for display. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $2,320.00
