Circa 1952 Gibbs & Connor Brooklyn Bum Ceramic Ashtray
Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $1,624.00
Extremely rare circa 1952 Brooklyn Dodgers "Bum" mascot glazed ceramic figural ashtray. This piece is of the same extraordinary quality as the Stafford pottery figures, but was produced by Gibbs & Connor, a Stafford competitor. We've never seen this extraordinary rarity before. It is incredibly bright and clean, and with blazing colors. It is in absolutely GEM MINT condition. The ashtray has obviously never been used. A tiny cigar accompanies and appears to be original to the piece; it is threaded with a thin plastic tube which somehow can be attached to the hole in the Bum's hand, though it is possible that an original attachment piece is lost as we're not sure exactly how he is intended to hold the cigar. The base of the ashtray measures 6 x 6 inches and the figure stands 7 inches tall. The ashtray is accompanied by a matching circa 1952 Brooklyn Dodgers "Bum" mascot look-alike squeeze toy with glossy finish, also 7 inches in height. This rubber toy, made by Rempe Manufacturing, was not a licensed product but intentionally bears a very close likeness to the "Bum" mascot, and is an ideal accompaniment to the Gibbs & Connor ashtray. It is in Excellent condition, with some slight surface crazing, and still squeaks. Total 2 items. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,624.00
