1950s Big League Baseball Stars on TV Advertising Display
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,160.00
This large circa 1955 "P. F." Canvas Shoes cardboard advertising display features ten of the game's greats and encourages fans to watch Hood's (the parent company) "Big League Baseball Stars" TV show. The cardboard sign has portraits of each of the following players, with name and team identified below: Ted Williams, Robin Roberts, Warren Spahn, Mickey Mantle, Roy Campanella, Red Schoendienst, Mickey Vernon, Al Rosen, Harvey Kuenn, and Minnie Minoso. Some wear along the edges, on the surface, and at the corners. On the reverse the original easel backing has been removed, painted black, and used for an unrelated advertising purpose ("That Comedian Danny Thomas" has been stenciled on in white lettering on reverse). Without reference to the reverse, which of course is not viewed when displayed, the sign displays beautifully, with a few minor imperfections apparent upon close inspection, and with an overall Vg-Ex to Excellent appearance. Very scarce and one of the better 1950s baseball advertising displays. Dimensions: 19.5 x 24.5 inches. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $1,160.00
