Circa 1970s Original Rawlings Gold Glove Advertising Award
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $2,088.00
This is an original Rawlings Gold Glove Award trophy made by the Rawlings Company as an elaborate store display. The Rawlings Gold Glove is awarded annually to players in recognition of fielding excellence at each position in baseball. Each year beginning in 1957, eighteen Major League players, nine American League and nine National League, are judged superior in individual fielding performance as voted by the managers and coaches in each league and are awarded the "Rawlings Gold Glove Award." This weighty award is a circa-1970s vintage manufacturer's sample, identical to those actually awarded to the players, which was apparently used by Rawlings to promote the sale of their gloves and their Gold Glove Awards program. When issued to players, the Gold Glove award included the name of the recipient. Because this is a display sample, advertising for Rawlings and the Gold Glove Awards program appears on the plaque where the player's name appears on issued awards. We have seen only a few of these advertising pieces over the years, and they make for an extremely impressive display, as intended, representing the Rawlings Company and one of baseball's most coveted awards. A "gold" leather glove with a gold baseball on either side is affixed to the quality walnut base (17L x 6.5W x 18H). Weight: 10.5 lbs. In Excellent to Mint condition. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $2,088.00
