1962-66 Black Player Bobbing Heads, Damaged, Including Colts! (3)
Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $2,610.00
Collection of three rare black player nodders, each with serious damage: 1) This lot is highlighted by the "King of Bobbing Head Dolls," the Houston Colt .45 black player! This is the rarest of all bobbing head dolls. The last example to appear at auction, back in 2002, sold for $11,683. Of the few other examples known, at least half have been restored. This is a damaged example, and a serious candidate for restoration. While its value when properly restored will not approach that of an unrestored high-grade example, it would be significantly enhanced in the eyes of most collectors. Despite its condition, this doll is worth considering for even the most advanced collector due to its extreme rarity. The right side of the head is virtually gone. Despite this damage, the doll actually displays quite well from the front. There is also some less severe but very obvious damage to the brim. 2) New York Mets black player nodder, with damage confined to the hat brim but that is severe. 3) Cardinals has damage to rear including chip to back of neck but is otherwise all in one piece; displays very nicely from front. Total 3 dolls. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $2,610.00
