1982 Pete Rose Philadelphia Phillies Game-Used & Signed Road Jersey

Starting Bid - $800.00, Sold For - $4,060.00

As suggested by the SCD Authentic grade of A10, this is a very special Rose jersey. One of the problems with Rose jerseys for collectors is the fact that, as his profile grew and his place in baseball history crystallized, both Pete Rose and the people around him sought to capitalize on the growing market for Pete Rose memorabilia, and many jerseys entered the market which were not, in fact, game-used by Rose. As the authentication process for jerseys has and continues to grow more sophisticated, a jersey such as this, which can be distinguished from a jersey manufactured strictly for presentation as a gift or for sale, will be appreciated by more collectors in the future. In the neck of the jersey is a blue strip tag with the name "Rose" in dark blue chain stitch. On the left front tail is the "Wilson" label with the size "44." Below this is a blue strip tag reading "82 1" in dark blue chain stitch. The numbers denote the year and set number, respectively. On the left breast is the Phillies logo emblem and on the back is a blue nameplate with "Rose." The player number "14" appears on both the right breast and on the back of the shirt. The emblem, name and numbers are made of maroon on white tackle twill. Because of his seemingly boundless enthusiasm, Pete Rose was nicknamed "Charlie Hustle" by Whitey Ford. He is the career leader in hits (4,256), singles (3,215), at-bats (14,053) and games played (3,562). He is the only player to play 500 games at five different positions and in 1999 was named to baseball's "All-Century Team." Despite his problems on and off the field, Rose will forever be remembered as one of the greatest players to ever take the field, and, like Joe Jackson, will always be a member in spirit of the Hall of Fame, though he may never be formally enshrined. On the right front of the jersey Rose has signed and inscribed "Pete Rose, Hit King #4256" ("9") in blue Sharpie marker. The jersey is all original and unaltered with medium game use. SCD Authentic Grade: A10. LOAs from Dave Bushing/SCD Authentic, Mike Gutierrez/GAI and James Spence & Steve Grad/PSA DNA. Reserve $800. Estimate $1,500/$2,500. SOLD FOR $4,060.00
