1921-1931 Honus Wagner Pro Model Coaches Bat

Starting Bid - $4,000.00, Sold For - $11,600.00

Honus Wagner signature model bat (pre model #) exhibits heavy game use including cleat marks and swelling along the barrel. Nicely finished with bold manufacturing and player stampings throughout. This is of one the earliest Wagner professional model bats known to exist, dating from Wagner's coaching days just a few years following his playing career. For fifty-six years, Wagner was a fixture in Pittsburgh, as a player for seventeen years, and as a coach for thirty-nine additional years. In 1905, Wagner was the first player ever to endorse and have his signature on a Louisville Slugger bat, which led to the creation of the "Signature" model bat concept which is popular to this day. This style bat is extremely desirable as it is a very rare example of a professional model bat made specifically for Honus Wagner. Bats from Wagner's playing days are virtually nonexistent and would sell for many tens of thousands of dollars if available. Bat expert John Taube believes there is sufficient evidence to date this bat specifically to 1923-1925. Length: 33.75 inches. Weight: 39.5 ounces. SCD Authentic Grade: A7.5. LOAs from Dave Bushing/SCD Authentic and John Taube & Vince Malta/PSA DNA. Reserve $4,000. Estimate $8,000/$12,000. SOLD FOR $11,600.00
