1955 Al Worthington NY Giants Road Flannel Jersey
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $2,088.00
1955 New York Giants road flannel jersey intended for use by pitcher Al Worthington. The gray road jersey is lettered "New York" across the front and features the number "33" on the reverse. All letters and numerals are appliquéd in black on orange felt. The name "Worthington" is chain-stitched in black upon a strip tag in the collar. The size, extra length and year ("44 5 in. 1955") of the garment are each chain-stitched in black along the left front tail. Also located on the left front tail is a "McAuliffe" label. The jersey is all original, with no alterations, and displays light wear including minor staining along both the front and reverse. Al Worthington played for the Giants in 1953 and 1954, but spent the entire 1955 season pitching for Minneapolis, the Giants' top farm club. He returned to the Giants' lineup in 1956 and 1957. The team was apparently expecting him to be on the roster in 1955 as well, and made this 1955 jersey for him. This jersey was almost certainly used by Worthington in spring training of 1956, as it was standard procedure to use the previous year's uniforms in the following season's spring training since the new year's shirts weren't available until opening day. This is an exceptional 1955 New York Giants jersey. Graded a perfect A10 by MEARS. LOA from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $2,088.00
