1981 Muhammad Ali/Trevor Berbick Onsite Fight Poster - Ali's Last Fight
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $464.00
Rare and extremely historic onsite fight poster promoting the December 11, 1981 heavyweight boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Trevor Berbick held at the Queen Elizabeth Sports Centre in Nassau, Bahamas. This is the onsite poster for Ali's final professional fight. The poster, issued by Sports International (Bahamas) Ltd., heralds the fight as the "Drama in Bahama" and pictures both fighters in a boxing pose. This bout, which was the second of Ali's comeback fights following his 1979 retirement, marked the last professional fight of his career. All onsite posters are rare, but the fact that Ali was well past his prime and that this fight was held in the Bahamas makes items related to this final bout all the rarer. No one knew that this would be Ali's last fight. Unfortunately for Ali and his legion of fans, the former champion was unable to turn back the clock that night. He suffered a somewhat embarrassing loss to the younger Berbick, motivating Ali to hang up his professional boxing gloves for good. This poster marks the end of the era of Muhammad Ali as a professional boxer, and the beginning of a new era in which Ali concentrated all his efforts on being a spiritual leader and an ambassador of peace for the world. The poster (14 x 17.5 inches) displays normal fold lines and is in Excellent condition. Beautifully matted and framed to total dimensions of 21 x 25 inches. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600.
