1956 John F. Kennedy Signed Letter Regarding Impeachment Ticket

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,610.00

One-page typed letter signed by John F. Kennedy (1917-63), thirty-fifth President of the United States, regarding a ticket to the 1868 impeachment proceedings of President Andrew Johnson. This letter was written during Kennedy's term as U.S. Senator and is dated February 27, 1956. In his brief missive, written on United States Senate letterhead, Kennedy responds to a woman who has offered to send him the ticket as a gift. Kennedy writes in full: "Dear Mrs. Bernstein: Many thanks for your recent letter. It was very thoughtful of you to offer to send me a ticket of admission to the impeachment proceedings on April 25, 1868. I would, of course, be very glad to receive this ticket, but I am most reluctant to accept it as it must be of great interest to you. Again, many thanks for your kind offer and with every good wish. Sincerely yours, John Kennedy [signed]." Below his signature Kennedy has added the handwritten comment "You were most kind." Both Kennedy's blue ink signature and notation are boldly penned and grade "10." This is a fascinating letter referencing the impeachment proceedings against Andrew Johnson, who replaced the slain President Lincoln and held the office that Kennedy would hold just four years in the future after writing this very letter. The letter (8 x 10.5 inches) has normal mailing folds and is in Excellent to Mint condition. LOA from Steve Grad & John Reznikoff/PSA DNA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $2,610.00
