George H. W. Bush Wilson Presentation Baseball Glove
Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $1,276.00
This Wilson left-handed first baseman's glove, model A2802, was specially produced for presentation to George H. W. Bush by the Wilson Sporting Goods Company. The unique glove displays the name "George Bush" stamped on the pocket and features an ornamental gold-foil sheathing covering the entire area of the reverse and all of the webbing. This glove was specially produced for Bush in anticipation of a special visit to the company's Chicago office. It is not known why Bush never received the glove, but it is likely the result of his trip to the plant being canceled. The glove eventually became the property of a Wilson executive, from whom it originates. The glove displays no use and there are a few extremely tiny tears to the delicate gold-foil sheathing on the reverse. Over the years, the major glove manufacturers have occasionally manufactured special one-of-a-kind gloves for presidents, usually for use when throwing out the first ball on opening day. They are, of course, extremely rare. That fact, along with the long-standing connection between the office of the presidency and The National Pasttime, make this a particularly exceptional display piece with appeal to both baseball and political collectors. Reserve $400. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,276.00
