1945 Chester W. Nimitz Signed Photograph
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,624.00
Black-and-white presentation photograph inscribed by Chester W. Nimitz (1885-1966), American admiral. This photo is the quintessential image of Nimitz, picturing the Admiral signing the Japanese surrender agreement aboard the U.S.S. Missouri in 1945. Nimitz has signed and inscribed the photo in black ink in the lower margin, "To Madeline J. Williams - With best wishes, C.W. Nimitz, Fleet Admiral, USN" ("8"). This is an extraordinarily high quality photograph, obviously intended to be a treasured keepsake and almost certainly ordered by Admiral Nimitz himself specifically to honor special signature requests. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, Nimitz was named commander of the Pacific Fleet and served as the head of Naval fighting forces in the Pacific throughout World War II. In 1944 he was promoted to Admiral of the Fleet and a year later he became Chief of Naval Operations. This is an exceptional signed photograph of one of the key military figures in the history of the United States. The photo (7 x 6 inches) displays a few very light creases along the border areas that have no impact on its extremely impressive display value. Very Good to Excellent condition. LOA from Steve Grad & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $1,624.00
