Extraordinary Hand-Carved Carousel Figure - Lion

Starting Bid - $1,500.00, Sold For - $1,740.00

Extremely attractive and impressive carousel piece based upon an antique carving of a Dentzel lion. Gustav Dentzel, who began his career in the 1800s, is considered one of the most prominent carousel manufacturers in history and his various carved animal figures are today looked upon as works of fine art. The offered piece is a faithful reproduction of a Dentzel lion and is distinguished from the original by the inclusion of the two monkeys along the back of the seat. This is one of five exacting reproductions made many years ago from the original, all of which are identical except for the type of animal on the lion's back. In that regard, this lion may be looked upon as a unique carving. This is an extraordinary work of art. The piece measures 84 (L) x 22 (W) x 60 (H) inches and is in Excellent to Mint condition. Please Note: due to the size and/or weight of this lot, shipping charges may be substantial. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $2,500+ SOLD FOR $1,740.00
