1940 Walt Disney Signed Pinocchio Program
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,320.00
Four-page program, issued by the Pantages Theatre (Hollywood) for the February 9, 1940 premier of the animated film Pinocchio, signed by Walt Disney on the front cover. Disney has inscribed the piece "To Marcella-Best Wishes-Walt Disney" in blue pencil, with both the inscription and signature grading "9/10." Authentic Walt Disney signatures are particularly rare today in part due to the fact that Disney often had studio artists sign his standard fan mail items. The offered signature is, of course, genuine and originates from a family member of Marcella Napp, the woman to whom the piece is inscribed. Marcella Napp was an assistant casting director at MGM during the 1930s and 1940s and one of the few woman at the time to hold such a high-ranking studio position. Included with the program is a LOA from the family, as well as a number of photocopied news articles pertaining to Napp. Pinocchio remains one of the most beloved animated features ever produced by the Walt Disney studios and that fact, combined with its significant and unique provenance, makes this one of the most substantial and ideal Walt Disney signed pieces we have ever seen. Excellent to Mint condition. 8.25 x 10.75 inches. LOA from Steve Grad & John Reznikoff/PSA DNA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $2,320.00
