N566 Newsboy Cabinet Ward, T3 Turkey Red Lajoie, B18 Blanket Johnson

Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $3,190.00

Collection of three Hall of Famers from three different classic tobacco issues dating from 1895 to 1914: 1) 1895 N566 Newsboy Cabinets: Key Hall of Famer John Ward (bat at side) from this rare cabinet card series issued by the National Tobacco Works in 1895. The photo itself is free of any major flaws with just some minor edge wear, which does not affect the image area. The cabinet mount has various imperfections including minor surface abrasions which affect some letters of the name and, most important, a .75-inch tear with accompanying paper loss at the base of the mount that bisects the "b" in "Newsboy." Despite mount flaws, still an attractive card from this rare issue. In approximately Good condition. 2) 1911 T3 Turkey Red: Strong mid-grade example of #23 Nap Lajoie from one of the most beautifully designed prewar issues. Bright, crisp colors with perfect registration, and a tiny rust stain on the reverse near the bottom border. Light corner wear. Vg-Ex. 3) 1914 B18 Blankets: Hall of Fame pitcher Walter Johnson (brown pennants). Vg-Ex condition with very light spots of toning in the white infield. Unusual assemblage of three Hall of Famers from three different tobacco issues. Total 3 items. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $3,190.00
