Nineteenth-Century Baseball and Non-Sport Tobacco Card Collection (248)

Collection of 248 cards from five different classic nineteenth-century baseball and nonsport tobacco issues, including nine N172 Old Judge baseball cards highlighted by two cards of Hall of Famer Dan Brouthers. Each N172 has been neatly trimmed along the bottom beneath the player's name and position, otherwise they are in Very Good condition. The collection also includes: 1) National Cigarette & Tobacco Co: N388 National Types - Sailor Girls (twelve thick cards - 8 grade Vg and 4 Gd; six thin cards - 1 Vg and 5 Gd); N392 Actresses - Admiral (30 cards - 5 grade Vg-Ex, 18 Vg, and 7 Gd). 2) Gail & Ax: N99b Battle Scenes Near Set (23 of 25, three cards with Honest Long Cut backs; 16 grade Vg and 7 Gd). 3) Duke: N99a Battle Scenes (23 cards with 8 diff. and 15 duplicates; 13 grade Vg and 10 Gd). 4) Kinney: N214: Collection of 150 actresses with a sepia-tone image, very similar in design to N172 Old Judge baseball cards. The front of the cards have the name of the actress identified, with advertising on reverse reading "Absolutely Pure - The Old Reliable - Sweet Caporal Cigarette - Has Stood the Test of Time - More Sold Than All Other Brands Combined." Condition ranges from Very Good to Excellent (averaging Vg-Ex). Interesting collection of nineteenth-century tobacco cards including nine baseball. Total 253 cards. Reserve $500.
