Circa 1910 "Bull Durham's Trip Around the World" Postcards Complete Set (33)

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,392.00

Presented is a complete set of thirty-three circa 1910 "Bull Durham's Trip Around the World" postcards, one of the rarest and most extraordinary of all tobacco-related card sets. These are well known in the advertising postcard world, but so rare that they are almost unknown in the nonsport card collecting field. This is, in fact, the first complete set we have ever seen. The condition of this set is extraordinary, averaging Ex-Mt overall. This exceptionally colorful postcard set was issued to promote the Bull Durham tobacco brand and is formally entitled "Bull Durham's Trip Around the World." Each card features an extremely colorful and detailed lithographic scene relating to the culture of each country represented in the set, with a package of Bull Durham Smoking Tobacco superimposed in the foreground of the illustration, and a poem below in which the people or culture illustrated is endorsing Bull Durham. The back of each card features a normal postcard indicia, along with a brief ad for Bull Durham in the upper left. All have perfectly clean backs and all are unmailed. The production quality of this set is unparalleled. This is one of the most substantial and amazing, as well as elusive, of all 1910-era tobacco sets. These cards are highly prized by advertising, postcard, and nonsport-card collectors. Dimensions: 3.5 x 5.5 inches each. Total 33 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500+. SOLD FOR $1,392.00
