1909 E92 Dockman & Sons Honus Wagner - Throwing (Blank Back)
Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $2,610.00
Graded VG 40 by SGC. Extremely unusual, possibly unique E92 printing variation card features Hall of Famer Honus Wagner in a throwing pose. This card has a blank back. E92s are known with the following advertising backs: Dockman & Sons, Croft's & Allen (blue and red printing), Croft's Cocoa, and Nadja Caramels. The fact that E92s were issued with several different printed advertising reverses does not preclude the possibility that they were also issued with blank backs, perhaps even with the intention of ink stamping advertising on the reverse. However, the fact that we have not seen any others with blank backs suggests that the lack of printing on the reverse of this card is likely a printing error. This is a fascinating, and very striking, previously unseen printing variation of one of the key cards from the E92 set. This is not a printer's scrap card. This card has a pronounced "diamond cut" and was therefore obviously cut and issued in exactly this manner. The card is bright and clean, both front and back, with no creases, and with crisp colors. If not for the "diamond cut" this card would otherwise be in Vg-Ex condition. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $2,610.00
