1910 D380 Clement Bros. Bread Ty Cobb
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $17,400.00
Graded GOOD 30 by SGC. Extraordinary newly discovered example of Ty Cobb from the extremely rare 1910 D380 Clement Brothers Bread series. Clement Brothers Baker cards were regionally issued only in Rochester, New York. This is easily one of Ty Cobb's rarest cards. We have seen only three examples of this incredible rarity over the past thirty-five years. All Clement Brothers bread cards are extremely rare. Ty Cobb is by far the key card to the set. This is an especially fascinating card as Cobb is in the identical batting pose as found in E90-1 American Caramel, but is featured in a black-and-white rendition of this design. This card was part of a larger collection of 1910-era cards which was saved for decades by the family of the original owner. The hundreds of other cards in the collection (all T206s) were sold years ago, but the family saved this one card of Ty Cobb as a souvenir, both because it was Ty Cobb and because it was so different from the other cards. While we never saw the balance of the collection, it is a virtual certainty that this amazing rarity was the highlight of the collection. This is a very attractive card. In GOOD condition, very clean both front and back, with with rounded corners, and some light horizontal creasing. The back of card features advertising for Clement Bros. bakery's bread and pies. This is a very attractive example of one of the rarest of all Ty Cobb cards. The D380 Clement Bros. Cobb, in fact, is much rarer than the T206 Ty Cobb with Ty Cobb back, and literally ten times rarer than the T206 Honus Wagner. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $17,400.00
