1914 B18 Blankets Collection (20) Plus Sewn Blanket (with 59 B18s)

Collection of twenty B18 blankets, ranging in grade from Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt, averaging Nr/Mt overall. Accompanied by an additional fifty-nine blankets which have been sewn together into a blanket. These 5.25-inch squares of "flannel baseball cards" were issued in 1914, with several popular brands of tobacco. They are referred to as "blankets" because they were intended to be sewn together to create bed covers, pillowcases, etc. Often overlooked by collectors, B18s are beginning to be recognized both for their scarcity, and for the exceptional value they represent compared to many other 1910-era baseball tobacco issues. 1) Collection of twenty individual B18s: (color refers to pennants, infield, or basepaths, per The Standard Catalog checklist): Bassler (purple), Cole (green), Cutshaw (green), Daubert (green), Doak (purple), Gowdy (white), Grant (green), Hummel (green), Mann (white), D. Miller (purple), O. Miller (green), Pratt (purple), Rucker (green), Sallee (purple), Steele (purple), Tyler (white), Viox (purple), Wagner (green), Wallace (HOF, purple), Williams (purple). 2) Sewn Blanket: The sewn blanket consists of a total of fifty-nine additional B18 blankets, which have been expertly sewn together: The B18s on the blanket include Ty Cobb (white), Agnew (red), Carey (purple), Doak (purple), Dolan (yellow), Gandil (brown), Gibson (2 purple), Huggins (2 yellow), Hyatt (purple), Kelley (purple), Konetchy (2 purple), Leibold (purple), Maranville (2 white), Olson (purple), O'Toole (purple), Pratt (purple), Sallee (2 purple), Shotton (red), Wallace (3 red), Walsh (3 purple), Whaling (brown), Whitted (yellow), etc. This is a beautifully sewn folk-art display piece utilizing B18s for their intended purpose, dating from the time of issue.
