1921 to 1961 Exhibit Card Collection Including Ruth (82)

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $2,610.00

Collection of 82 different Exhibit cards from three different Exhibit card issues (1921, 1948, and 1961), including 65 Hall of Famers and highlighted by a 1921 Babe Ruth. 1) 1921 Exhibits (26 cards). Condition ranges from Vg to Ex (averaging Vg-Ex). Highlights: Bancroft (Vg-Ex/Ex), Carey (Vg-Ex), Coveleski (Ex), Faber (Ex), Frisch (Vg-Ex), Hornsby (Vg-Ex), Johnson (Ex), Ruth (Vg due to very light water stain in upper right, otherwise Vg-Ex/Ex), and Schalk (Vg-Ex). 2) 1948 Baseball's Great Hall of Fame Exhibits (32 cards): Complete set minus one (missing only Waddell for completion). Set includes Ty Cobb, Lou Gehrig, Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson, two variations of Babe Ruth, etc. Close inspection of reverse of several cards reveals a small pencil number erased, otherwise Excellent condition across the board with the exception of Ruth with ten bats card which is Vg-Ex/Ex (falling shy of Ex due to just a hint too much corner wear), and the second Ruth card (batting pose) which is Ex but has a print defect. 3) 1961 Exhibits "Wrigley Field" Set (24 cards): Complete "Wrigley's Field" set, so named because these cards were sold at Chicago's Wrigley Field, features members of baseball's Hall of Fame including Ty Cobb, Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth, etc. The set is in Ex-Mt condition. This is a very unusual collection featuring cards from the Exhibit Company's first year of issuing cards (1921) which, understandably, are highly prized by collectors, as well as the two "Hall of Fame" Exhibit issues dating from 1948 and 1961, each of which are very substantial sets which have received far less attention than they deserve. The 1948 Hall of Fame set has been very confusing for collectors over the years because reproductions of this issue are common (these are, of course, originals). The 1961 "Wrigley Field" set is a "sleeper" which is simply not on the radar of most collectors, but is a very substantial and unusual set. Total 82 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $2,610.00
