1933 Goudey #119 Rogers Hornsby PSA NM-MT 8
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $3,190.00
Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Only three examples of this card have ever been graded higher. Regarded by many as the greatest right-handed hitter of all time, Hornsby took special care of his batting eyes-refusing to read newspapers or watch movies. He won seven batting titles and retired with the second highest batting average in baseball history (.358). As a player/manager he won two pennants and a World Series title with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1926, that team's first championship. This 1933 Goudey #119 Rogers Hornsby has four sharp corners and is centered slightly toward the left border (35/65 L/R), with flawless colors, and a very bold image. Even the yellow background is bright and perfect with no fading, providing ideal contrast to Hornsby's image. The card is perfectly clean both front and back. This is a very high grade example of one of the most popular and classic cards of one of the most highly collected Hall of Famers. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $3,190.00
