1933 R319 Goudey #53 Babe Ruth

Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $4,930.00

Graded EX 60 by SGC. Very attractive example of one of Babe Ruth's most classic cards, #53 with yellow background from the 1933 Goudey series. The "yellow background" pose of Babe Ruth is, without a doubt, his most difficult to obtain and sought-after card in the 1933 Goudey set. For some reason this card is also a condition rarity compared with other Ruth cards in the set. This is a very attractive example, bright and clean, with some very light wear to all four corners (corners are still square), and virtually perfect registration (which can sometimes be a problem with this particular card). We grade this card slightly more conservatively than SGC at Vg-Ex, primarily due to the approximately 10/90 Left to right centering, though it is true that the centering is not particularly distracting (perhaps because the yellow background naturally does not contrast sharply with the white of the borders). The back is clean with bold green print set against a white background. This is a very attractive example of one of Babe Ruth's most classic cards from the popular 1933 Goudey Gum series. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $4,930.00
