1948 Leaf #76 Ted Williams PSA MINT 9
Starting Bid - $5,000.00, Sold For - $17,400.00
Graded MINT 9 by PSA. One of only seven examples graded "9" with none graded higher. Incredible ultra high-grade example of this significant condition rarity, which is also one Ted Williams' most striking and popular cards. 1948 Leafs have always posed a problem for condition-conscious collectors. In addition to the many normal problems encountered with this issue (excessive toning, general wear from fragile paper stock, soft corners, centering issues, and print lines), collectors also have to deal with the wildly varying degrees of print quality that characterize the set. It is easy to see why 1948 Leafs are one of the most difficult of all issues to collect in high grade. The offered card raises the bar for surviving 1948 Leafs. The offered example has a perfectly crisp image, with flawless registration, and crisp, perfect off-white borders. Perfectly clean front and back, with four razor-sharp corners, and centered ever-so-slightly to the left. The image of Williams practically jumps off the flawless bold, bright-red background. This may be the single finest example in the world of this extremely important card. Pack-fresh, crisp, high-grade example of one of Williams' most classic cards worthy of the finest collection. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000/$15,000. SOLD FOR $17,400.00
