1886 N167 Old Judge Roger Connor PSA VG-EX 4
Starting Bid - $4,000.00, Sold For - $31,900.00
Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA. The slightest barely visible paper wrinkle near the top border, virtually undetectable even in strong light, is all that keeps this exceptional example of Hall of Famer Roger Connor from grading a strong PSA EX 5. Few nineteenth-century cards compare in rarity or significance to N167 Old Judges, the first series of baseball cards ever issued by Goodwin. The thin stock on which N167s are printed makes them especially susceptible to tears and other damage. Bright, crisp, and clean front and back. Being his first card issued by Old Judge, this card would also qualify by definition to most collectors as being Connor's rookie card. Extremely light, even corner wear. Perfect centering. Boldly printed advertisement on reverse. This is an extraordinary example of Hall of Famer Roger Connor from one of the most condition-sensitive, significant, and rarest issues in all of card collecting. Reserve $4,000. Estimate $8,000/$12,000. SOLD FOR $31,900.00
