10% Nr/Mt, 57% Ex-Mt, 33% Ex (includes a very few cards slightly lesser). This is an extremely high quality complete set of 1953 Topps, one of the most popular and classic of all baseball card sets. We have selected twenty-four cards to be graded by PSA. Keys: #1 Robinson (PSA EX 5), 10 Burgess SP (Ex), 27 Campanella (PSA NM 7), 37 Mathews (PSA VG-EX 4), 41 Slaughter (PSA EX 5), 43 McDougald SP (PSA NM-MT 8), 54 Feller (PSA EX 5), 61 Wynn SP (PSA NM 7), 76 Reese (PSA EX-MT 6), 77 Mize (PSA EX-MT 6), 78 Schoendienst (Ex), 81 Black SP (Ex), 82 Mantle (PSA EX 5), 86 Martin SP (PSA EX-MT 6), 87 Lopat SP (90/10 T/B, otherwise Ex), 104 Berra (PSA EX 5), 114 Rizzuto (PSA EX 5), 119 Sain SP (PSA NM 7), 138 Kell (Vg-EX/Ex), 147 Spahn (PSA EX 5), 149 DiMaggio (PSA NM-MT 8), 151 Wilhelm SP (PSA EX-MT 6), 162 Kluszewski SP (Ex), 191 Kiner (Ex), 207 Ford (PSA EX 5), 220 Paige (PSA EX-MT 6), 228 Newhouser (Ex), 244 Mays (PSA EX-MT 6), 246 Face (Vg-EX/Ex), 254 Roe (PSA NM 7), 258 Gilliam (PSA EX-MT 6), 263 Podres SP (Ex, bordering on Ex-Mt), 264 Woodling (Ex-Mt), 265 Jensen SP (PSA NM 7), 273 Haddix SP (30/70 L/R, otherwise Ex-Mt), and 280 Bolling SP (PSA VG-EX 4). This set was assembled with great care one card at a time by a very dedicated collector in the 1980s, with concern for all factors, and with special consideration to centering. The flush-to-the-bottom-border design of the 1953 Topps set makes this issue particularly susceptible to edge and corner wear, and makes the assembly of high-grade sets all the more difficult. This is an exceptionally attractive mid-to high-grade set, far above average for this issue, with tremendous eye appeal across the board. A high quality and very carefully assembled complete set of one of card collecting's most popular issues. SMR value for just the twenty-four graded cards alone is $5,640.Total 274 cards. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000/$6,000. SOLD FOR $26,100.00
