1909 Joe Tinker Signed Real Photo Postcard
Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $1,508.00
Unique real photo postcard of Joe Tinker is signed and inscribed by Tinker in black fountain pen, "Joe Tinker as 'Bud Hull' in Brown of Harvard." One of Tinker's lesser-known talents was acting, and the photo captures him wearing his Harvard letterman's sweater in his role as "Bud Hull." Tinker's signature and the entire inscription contrast strongly against the background of the lower margin, grading "8." Traditional divided postcard reverse (never mailed). The black ink notation "Harriet Hartford - Thurs. Jan 7, 1909" is scripted on the reverse. Tinker apparently had a serious interest in the performing arts. This postcard dates from the same era as the publication of the "Between You and Me" sheet music, a song Tinker wrote in 1908 with teammate Johnny Evers. Joe Tinker signed photos are extremely rare. We don't know how kind the critics were to his performance on stage, but no one ever panned his ability on the baseball diamond. As a member of baseball's most famous double-play combination, "Tinker to Evers to Chance," Tinker reigned supreme as one of the era's best fielding shortstops, leading the National League in fielding on four separate occasions. His fine play also helped lead the Cubs to four pennants and two World Championships between the years 1906 and 1910. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1946, two years prior to his death. The postcard (3.5 x 5.5 inches) is in Excellent condition. LOAs from James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $1,508.00
