1887-1889 N172 Old Judge Graded Collection (5)

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,900.00

Collection of five N172 Old Judge series cards, each graded by PSA or GAI or SGC: 1) John Clarkson/Chicago (SGC EX 60). Hall of Famer John Clarkson, 1887, with team identified as "Chicago," pitching pose (right arm horizontal, left hand clear of thigh). Clean both front and back, with a crystal clear image and excellent contrast. This card has virtually no top border and a slight tilt to the picture. Though slightly overgraded by SGC in our opinion due to centering, this is a very attractive solid Vg-Ex example of one of the nineteenth century's key Hall of Famers. 2) Nat Hudson/"Brown's Champions 1886" (SGC EX 60). Slight miscut along the bottom border and light toning on the reverse. We grade this card slightly harsher than SGC at Vg-Ex. 3) Kloff, Minneapolis (GAI EX-MT 6), 1888. Absolutely gorgeous N172 example with flawless image, perfect contrast, and a perfectly clean reverse. They don't come much nicer than this! We grade this card Nr/Mt. 4) John McCormack, St. Louis Whites (PSA EX-MT 6). Crisp and clean, with four sharp corners. A small, light stain in the lower right corner keeps this card from a higher grade, and would have caused us to grade this card a little harsher than PSA. 5) Dave Orr, Brooklyn (PSA EX 5). Gorgeous card with flawless image, perfect contrast, and perfectly clean back. We grade this card Ex-Mt. A great looking group of quality Old Judges. Total 5 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $2,900.00
