1947 Brooklyn Dodgers Team-Signed Ball - Jackie Robinson's Rookie Season

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,044.00

Presented is one of the most significant of all team-signed baseballs: a 1947 Brooklyn Dodgers team ball dating from Jackie Robinson's rookie season. It is extremely rare to find any Dodger team ball from this era with so many signatures (31) including all of the starters, and with no "clubhouse" signatures. The thirty-one blue-ink signatures appearing on this Official National League (Frick) ball are those of Robinson ("5"), Reese, Vaughan, Reiser, Hodges, Barney, Walker, Rojak, Gregg, Jorgenson, Edwards, Miksis, Brown, Branca, Gionfriddo, Lavagetto, Casey, Shotton (black ink), Taylor, Hermanski, Hatten, Bragan, Pitler (sweet spot, coach), Lombardi (sweet spot), Blades, Rojack, Furillo, King, Stanky, Behrman and Blades (coach). Signatures range in grade from "3" to "6," averaging "5." The ball displays a number of small abrasions and has been coated with a thin layer of protective shellac, much of which has since flaked off. The ball is in Very Good condition overall. Jackie Robinson made history in 1947 by becoming the first black ballplayer to don a Major League uniform in the twentieth century. While Robinson's detractors were many during his inaugural season, he soon won over the Brooklyn fans and most of his teammates with his aggressive style of play. Robinson batted .297 with twelve home runs, forty-eight RBI and a league-leading twenty-nine stolen bases. Those numbers not only helped lead the Dodgers to their first pennant in six years but also earned Robinson Rookie of the Year honors at season's end. This is a remarkably complete Brooklyn Dodgers team ball, featuring the signatures of every starting player, dating from the most significant season in franchise history. LOAs from James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,044.00
