1956 Indianapolis Indians Team-Signed Baseball With Roger Maris
Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $1,276.00
Before Maris broke into the majors and rewrote the record book, he paid his dues in the minor leagues. Presented is an Official American Association (Doherty) ball signed in blue ink by twenty-two members of the 1956 Indianapolis Indians including Roger Maris ("8") , Joe Altobelli, Stu Locklin, Dick Tomanek, Eddie Gasque, Johnny Hutchings (sweet spot), Kerby Farrell (mgr., sweet spot), Russ Nixon, Bud Daley, Earl Averill (Jr.), Ted Beard, Bob Young, Howie Rodemoyer, John Gray, Stan Powloski and Rudy Regaldo. The signatures are all fairly uniform in grade, ranging from "7" to "9." 1956 represented Roger Maris' final season in the minors before moving up to the Cleveland Indians in 1957. While his power numbers gave no hint of his future deeds, Maris did enjoy a fine season with Indianapolis that summer, finishing the season with 17 home runs, 75 RBI, and a .293 batting average. Pre-rookie era Maris signed items are extremely rare. This ball represents a fascinating and very historic relic from the earliest playing days of the former single-season home run king. The ball is a very high-grade example. It is overall in Near Mint condition, with only a couple of small areas with a hint of age toning, and all of the numerous manufacturer's stampings crisp and bold. LOAs from James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $1,276.00
