Circa 1957 Roger Maris Signed Real-Photo Postcard
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $696.00
Dating from the late 1950s, this real-photo postcard captures Roger Maris posing in uniform as a member of the Cleveland Indians. A vintage blue ink signature ("9") of the legendary slugger appears across his image. These real-photo style postcards were provided by the team for use by players to distribute to fans and to use in honoring autograph requests. Maris broke into the Majors with Cleveland in 1957, batting .235 with 14 home runs and 51 RBIs. Unfortunately, Cleveland did not exercise the proper patience with the future superstar and he was traded to Kansas City in mid season the following year. This is an exceptional, rare, and ideal Maris vintage signed piece dating to his rookie era. The postcard has never been mailed. A small pencil notation on the reverse notes the date of Maris' death, 1985. Excellent to Mint condition. LOAs from James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $696.00
