1956-1969 Cleveland Indians Team-Signed Presentation Display Photo Collection (9)
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $2,610.00
Presented is the ultimate collection of Cleveland Indians team-signed display photographs. The nine Cleveland Indians team-signed photos offered here are each extremely rare; as a collection they are almost certainly unique. All are large-format presentation display photographs that were available only to members of the Cleveland Indians ball club. All have been signed by the entire team. These are extremely substantial and extremely rare, in part because these special display photographs were not simply automatically issued to each player at season's end: If a player wanted one of these photos he had to pay for it. During the 1960s the cost for each presentation display photograph was $50, which was not a small sum considering the fact the average player salary was only about $14,000 a year. For that reason, not every player exercised his option to order one. All of the presentation photographs are in Excellent to Mint condition (unless otherwise noted) and each has been framed as issued to slightly larger dimensions. Measurements refer to the image area of each photograph: 1956: 33 blue ink signatures ("9/10") including Al Lopez, Bob Lemon, Early Wynn, Bob Feller, Al Rosen, Vic Wertz, Jim Hegan, Dale Mitchell, Herb Score, Mike Garcia, Bobby Avila, Gene Woodling and Chico Carrasquel; 23 x 19 inches. 1958: 35 black ink signatures ("7-9") including Hoyt Wilhelm, Larry Doby, Bobby Avila, Vic Wertz, Minnie Minoso, Rocky Colavito, Herb Score, Mickey Vernon and Joe Gordon; 19 x 15 inches. 1960: 35 blue ink signatures ("6-9") including Jim Perry, Jimmy Piersall, Chuck Tanner, Joe Gordon, Vic Power and Tito Francona; 23 x 19 inches. 1962: 34 blue ink signatures ("6-8") including Dick Donovan, Jim Grant, Tito Francona, Ruben Gomez, Mel McGaha and Jim Perry; 19 x 15 inches. 1964: 32 blue or black ink signatures ("4-8") including Early Wynn (coach), Sam McDowell, Luis Tiant, Dick Howser, Birdie Tebbetts and Jack Kralick; 23 x 19 inches. 1965: 36 blue felt-tip pen signatures ("9/10") including Early Wynn (coach), Rocky Colavito, Sam McDowell, Ralph Terry, Luis Tiant and Vic Davalillo; 19.25 x 15 inches. 1967: 44 black marker signatures ("9/10," includes 13 signatures of players who were on the roster that year but are not pictured) including Tony Horton, Steve Hargan, Sam McDowell, Luis Tiant and Joe Adcock; 19 x 13 inches, with some moderate border wear as a result of the photo having slipped out of the matting. 1968: 30 blue ink signatures ("6-10") including Luis Tiant, Sam McDowell, Lee Maye and Alvin Dark; 19.5 x 15.75 inches, Vg-Ex. 1969: 28 red marker signatures ("9/10") including Luis Tiant, Ken Harrelson, Tony Horton and Alvin Dark (seven of the players pictured have not signed the photo, including Zoilo Versalles); 19 x 15 inches. These large-format team-issued signed Indians presentation photographs rarely surface, let alone in a collection of nine. This is an extraordinary and unique gallery of Cleveland Indians signed presentation displays. Total: 9 signed presentation photos. LOAs from James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+++.
