1961 New York Yankees Signed Photo Collection (33) With Mantle

This magnificent collection commemorates the 1961 New York Yankees in the form of thirty-two individually signed photographs, one multi-signed photograph, and a unique ball signed by the pitchers who gave up Maris' first, sixtieth and sixty-first home run, respectively, in 1961. Twenty-nine of the photos measure 8 x 10 inches, while the remainder are either smaller or larger as listed. Unless otherwise noted, all of the photos are in color and have been framed to slightly larger dimensions. Each has been flawlessly signed in either blue or black Sharpie (grading "10") by the respective player pictured. The twenty-nine signed 8 x 10 photos are: Mantle (matted and framed), Boyer (inscribed "W.S. Champs 1961 #6" below his signature), Cerv, Thomas (b/w), Hale (b/w), Lopez, James (b/w), DeMaestri, Clevenger, Downing, Reed (b/w), Ditmar, Turley, Richardson ("#1" inscribed below his signature), Duren, Houk, Gardner, McDevitt (b/w), Blanchard ("1961 Wold Champs" inscribed below his signature), Bud Daley, Stafford, Jim Coates, Reniff, Gonder, Kubek (b/w, blue fine point marker signature on a Rawlings promotional photo), Crosetti (not framed), Terry (not framed), Tresh (not framed), and Sheldon (not framed). The remaining five items are as follows: 1) 11 x 14-inch black-and-white photo of Yogi Berra, inscribed in silver marker "Yogi Berra 1961." Matted and framed to total dimensions of 16.5 x 19 inches. 2) 14 x 11-inch black-and-white photo of Yogi Berra signed "Yogi Berra 1961 W.S. " Matted and framed to total dimensions of 20.5 x 17.5 inches. 3) 9 x 7-inch black-and-white photo of the 1961 New York Yankees infield: Moose Skowron, Bobby Richardson, Tony Kubek, and Clete Boyer. Each player has signed the photo and listed his uniform number atop his respective image. Clete Boyer has also signed the backing on the reverse of the frame. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 17.75 x 15.75 inches. 4) 19 x 15-inch color photo of Whitey Ford signed "Whitey Ford-Cy Young '61." Matted and framed to total dimensions of 26 x 22 inches. 5) Signed "Maris Theme" baseball. The ball is a Mint official American League (Budig) ball and has been inscribed "Tracy Stallard #61 Maris 10/1/61" in blue ink on the sweet spot. Also appearing on the ball, on the top and bottom panels respectively, are the blue-ink signatures of the pitchers who gave up Maris' first homer of the season and his sixtieth. Paul Foytack has inscribed the ball "Paul Foytack-1st HR Maris 4/26/61" and Jack Fisher has signed the ball "Jack Fisher-Maris #60 9-26-61." Carefully assembled by a very advanced lifelong 1961 Yankees team collector, this lot provides the foundation for a signed gallery display and tribute to the one of the most legendary teams in the history of the game.
