Mickey Mantle Signed "1962 Topps Card" Painting

Unique original artwork of Mickey Mantle, by noted sports artist Wayne Prokopiak, signed by Mantle in black Sharpie. This is a tremendous Mantle-signed original artwork which is ideal for display. This large oil on canvas painting presents an exact likeness of Mantle's 1962 Topps baseball card and has been beautifully signed ("8") and dated ("8/18/90") by Mantle in the lower left. The artist has signed and dated ("8/18/90") the painting in the lower left as well. This painting, which was a specially commissioned work by Prokopiak, was signed by Mantle in the presence of our consignor and is accompanied by a photo of Mantle holding this very piece. Wayne Prokopiak, who has created many memorable sports lithographs, is best known today for his work with the Boxing Hall of Fame. Prokopiak was the official artist for the Boxing Hall of Fame during the 1990s and was annually commissioned to create the cover illustrations for its induction programs. During that period he also developed a close working relationship with our consignor, who commissioned Prokopiak to produce a number of significant baseball artworks for his substantial personal collection. The offered piece is one of the finest of those specially commissioned works, and is one of a number of signed Prokopiak paintings representing the personal collection of our consignor.
