Ten 1985-1995 Perez-Steele "Great Moments" Sets: 42 Signed Cards Per Set (420 Hall of Fame Signed Cards)

Starting Bid - $5,000.00, Sold For - $13,920.00

Presented is an extraordinary hoard of ten complete 96-card sets of 1985-1995 Perez-Steele Great Moments cards Series #1 through #8 complete (each set missing only the final Series #9 of all Great Moments cards ever issued), with every set having been signed by the same forty-two Hall of Fame players, for a total of 420 signed cards. These were assembled with great vision, and at great expense in both time and effort, by an extremely dedicated hobbyist who specialized in Perez-Steele cards and was very active during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Many miles were logged and many conventions were attended in putting together this extraordinary assemblage. This was a labor of love and also intended to be an investment in the future. Signed Great Moments cards have just begun to be appreciated in the marketplace. The recent introduction of encapsulation and signature grading of these cards by PSA is just beginning to have a significant effect, but even without this important market-related factor, a strong case can be made that signed Great Moments cards represent a tremendous value. We have recently seen signed Mantles selling on eBay for over $400 each. There are ten signed Mantles in this lot. There are also ten signed Ted Williams, ten signed Sandy Koufax, etc. This is an incredible investment lot. The Great Moments set was issued in series of twelve cards. Each of the ten sets of Series #1 through Series #8 therefore consists of 96 cards (only 42 autographed) and each set is missing only the 12-card Series Nine for completion. The Perez-Steele Great Moments set features only Hall of Fame players and is designed in the style of the classic 1911 Turkey Red cabinet cards. Each card was limited to a print run of only 5,000 and every card is individually numbered on the reverse. Of the 96 players in each group, only 61 could possibly have been signed (the balance of the players passed away prior to the date of publication). Organized by series, these are the forty-two signed cards in each of the ten sets: First Series: Kaline, Ford, Aaron, Musial; Second Series: T. Williams, Spahn, Koufax, Roberts, Mantle, Banks, McCovey, Mize; Third Series: Reese, Irvin, Mathews, Slaughter, Gehringer, Snider, Dandridge, Hubbell, Doerr; Fourth Series: Dickey, Stargell, B. Robinson, Herman, Aparicio, Gomez, Killebrew; Fifth Series: Bench, Berra, Schoendienst, Marichal, Leonard, Kell; Sixth Series: Hunter, Boudreau, Mays, Brock, Lemon, B. Williams, Ferrell, and Yastrzemski. The cards (5.75 x 8 inches) are all in Near Mint to Mint condition and the signatures (all of which are scripted in blue Sharpie) are extremely high quality, ranging from "9" to "10" in grade. We have selected five examples to be encapsulated with signatures graded by PSA: Mantle (Gem Mint 10), Reese (Gem Mint 10), T. Williams (Gem Mint 10), Koufax (Mint 9), Aaron (Mint 9). Each series is housed in its original box. This is an extraordinary investment grade Hall of Fame signed collection including many now deceased players. LOAs from James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Total: 960 cards (96 cards in each set) including 420 signed cards. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000/$20,000+. SOLD FOR $13,920.00
