Five 1980-2001 Perez-Steele Hall of Fame Postcard Sets: 64 Signed Cards Per Set (320 Hall of Fame Signed Cards)

Starting Bid - $2,500.00, Sold For - $11,020.00

Presented are five near-complete sets of 1980-2001 Perez-Steele Hall of Fame Postcards (missing only Don Drysdale, card #186, in each set), with each set having been signed by the same sixty-four Hall of Fame players. Perez-Steele Hall of Fame postcards are universally recognized as one of the most classic issues ever produced for autograph collectors. This collection of five signed sets was assembled by an extremely dedicated hobbyist who specialized in Perez-Steele cards and was very active in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Perez-Steele Hall of Fame Postcards were originally issued in fifteen individual series between 1980 and 2001. With the exception of seven cards (featuring Hall of Fame Officials, Perez-Steele Gallery executives and other non-ballplayers) only Baseball Hall of Fame members are included in the set. Each card was limited to a print run of 10,000 and every card is individually numbered on the reverse. Of the 260 cards in the set, only 107 could possibly have been signed (the balance of the players passed away prior to the date of publication). In total, there are 320 Hall of Fame signatures in the collection (5 each of 64 players). Organized by series, the following are the sixty-four Hall of Fame player signed cards in each set, as well as the four cards signed by non-Hall of Fame members: Second Series: Hubbell, Gehringer; Third Series: Dickey, Terry, DiMaggio, Feller, Roush; Fourth Series: Appling, T. Williams, Musial, Boudreau; Fifth Series: Berra, Gomez, Koufax, Leonard, Wynn, Irvin, Spahn, Bell, Conlan, Ford, Mantle, Herman, J. Johnson; Sixth Series: Kiner, Lemon, Roberts, Banks, Sewell, Mathews, Mays, Kaline, Snider, Gibson, Mize, Stack (President of the Hall of Fame); Seventh Series: Aaron, Chandler, T. Jackson, F. Robinson, Kell, Marichal, B. Robinson; Eighth Series: Aparicio, Ferrell, Killebrew, Reese, Brock, Slaughter, Wilhelm; Ninth Series: Doerr, McCovey, Dandridge, Hunter, B. Williams, Peggy Steele, Frank Steele, Dick Perez; Tenth Series: Stargell, Barlick, Bench, Schoendienst, Yastrzemski; Eleventh Series: Morgan, Palmer, Carew, Jenkins, Perry. According to the 2005 Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards , each individual set featuring the listed sixty-four signed Hall of Famer cards included here has a value of in excess of $3,000. The cards (3.5 x 5.5 inches) are all in Near Mint to Mint condition and the signatures (all of which are scripted in blue Sharpie) are all extremely high quality, ranging in grade from "9" to "10." We have selected five examples to be encapsulated with signatures graded by PSA: DiMaggio (Gem Mint 10), Mantle (Gem Mint 10), Reese (Gem Mint 10), T. Williams (Mint 9), Koufax (Mint 9). Each series of cards is housed in its original box with the exception of the Eleventh Series cards. This is an extraordinary investment-grade Hall of Fame signed collection including many now deceased players. LOAs from James Spence/JSA and Steve Grad, Mike Gutierrez & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA. Total: 1,295 cards (259 cards in each set) including 320 signed cards (5 each of 64 Hall of Famers). Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000/$10,000+. SOLD FOR $11,020.00
