Circa 1910 Cap Anson Cigar Box

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $1,276.00

This extremely rare wooden cigar box opens to reveal a label picturing a portrait image of Hall of Famer Cap Anson. The top of the box reads "Flor de Anson." Manufactured by Huening in Burlington, Wisconsin, this cigar box once housed fifty cigars endorsed by the legendary star. This brand was issued shortly after Anson's retirement from baseball. The box is completely intact and very sound. The inside label has been well protected from the elements in the confines of the box, and is complete with a gorgeous full-color design surrounding Anson's portrait. A pencil notation reading "lettuce" is lightly written in script in the upper left of the label. A remnant of an exterior side paper label featuring the same portrait of Anson can be seen. The exterior of the box exhibits general wear. The interior is clean and bright. Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Dimensions: 6.75 x 5.25 x 3 inches. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,276.00
