Nineteeth-Century Baseball Trophy and Cup Collection (5)
Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $1,856.00
Each of these five decorative trophies and cups date from the 1880s/1890s, and each features a beautifully engraved baseball image on the front. Two of the cups depict a game in progress, one pictures a batter and catcher, another a single-player image (batting pose), and the last a decorative ball-and-bat motif. Each is silver plated, with three noted as being quadruple plated and another triple plated. Manufacturers listed, respectively, are Reed and Barton, Meriden Britannia, C & R, Wm Rogers Manufacturing Co., and Standard Silver Co. Ltd. This is a very high quality collection of early baseball presentation pieces. Most early trophies and cups with a baseball theme date from after 1900. All pre-1900 baseball presentation pieces are very rare. Though there are only five pieces in this lot, this is actually a very substantial collection of these prized nineteenth-century display pieces. Sizes range from 12.5 to 3.5 inches in height and all exhibit heavy age tarnishing. The largest cup appears to be missing its original lid. Total 5 items. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200.
