1868 Base Ball Emporium and Manufacturing Company Sales Catalog
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,044.00
Extremely rare Base Ball Emporium and Manufacturing Company sales catalog for the year 1868. Published by Peck & Snyder, the catalog's complete title on the cover reads "Illustrated & Descriptive Price List of Base Ball, Cricket, &c., and Sporting Goods In General, for the Jobbing and Wholesale Trade Only." Below the title is an illustration of a period ballplayer in complete bib-style uniform, with cap and holding bat. Nineteen of the thirty-two pages are devoted to baseball-related items including jerseys, pants, belts, spikes, bats, balls, score books, flags, and even trophy bats. Pricing is listed for each item. Ideally, many of the items are pictured (by means of woodcut illustrations), thus providing a treasure trove of information for historians regarding the evolution of baseball equipment. Also featured among the pages is an advertisement for the just-released 1868 Haney's Base Ball Book of Reference by Henry Chadwick. The original yellow wrappers are fully intact, but slightly age-toned and soiled. A few light pencil notations appear on both the front cover and title page. The pages are generally free of any defects. The very striking cover illustration makes this extraordinary rarity particularly ideal for display. Vg-Ex condition overall. 4 x 6.5 inches. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,044.00
