Nineteenth-Century Baseball Trade Card Collection (148)
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $4,060.00
Offered is a tremendous collection of 148 nineteenth-century baseball trade cards (112 different plus 36 duplicates). If this lot looks similar to the one that precedes it, it is for good reason. Our consignor's collection was so vast that this grouping represents the many duplicates he had acquired over the years in his quest to put together the finest nineteenth-century trade card collection ever assembled. It should be emphasized that while this collection represents only the duplicates of the collection, it is an extremely significant accumulation of these rare cards and includes not only a number of complete sets, but also many particularly desirable individual rarities. These sets are among those represented within the collection: "Tobin Major League Players Series" (H804-21): "Kelly"; near-complete "Baby Talk Series" (H804-1A); "Vertical Brownie Series (H804-2A); complete set of "Buffords Series" (H804-3); complete set of "Capadura Cigar Series" (H804-4); near complete set of "Black Player Series (H804-5A); complete set of "Forbes Co. Series" (H804-6); "Sporting Life Series (H804-8B), 3 cards, all trimmed ("Judgment," "Hold It," and "The Curve for this Season"); near-complete set of "Corner Clefs Series" (H804-10); complete set of "Circled Position Series (H804-11); "Forbes Injury Series" (H804-16); complete set of "Bluish-Green Series (H804-17); "Big White Shoes Series" (H804-14); "Red Border Position Series" (H804-15A); ; and "Large Card Series" (H804-26). Additional noteworthy individual cards include "Base Ball at Blackville," "Gets There Just The Same," and "Base Ball At Our Picnic." Condition: 70% range from Gd to Vg-Ex, the balance technically grade lesser (including some trimmed) but have great eye appeal. The entire collection can be viewed online. Total: 148 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500+.
