Circa 1880s Delft Porcelain Baseball Stein
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,392.00
Produced by Swaine Delft of Delft, Germany, this nineteenth-century decorative lidded porcelain stein features a beautifully illustrated baseball scene in cobalt blue. This is a particularly rare and unusual piece. It is fascinating to note that this rare stein was designed with a lithophane base which, when held to the light, displays an artistic illustrated Dutch scene. Stamped Delft Germany on the base. The stein is 7.5 inches in height (including the lid). In Excellent to Mint condition with only the most minor surface wear to the metal rim of the lid. This is an exceptionally rare and interesting nineteenth-century display piece which is of great potential interest to both baseball and decorative-art collectors. Reserve $500.
