Circa 1909 Pittsburgh Pirates Felt Pennant
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,508.00
Pittsburgh Pirates felt pennant issued at the time of the opening of Forbes Field in 1909. The green felt pennant celebrates the Pirates' new home stadium with a colorful applied likeness of the ballpark's interior grounds and majestic grandstand. Below the image, in white painted letters, are the words "Interior Forbes Field." The locale, "Pittsburgh, PA." appears to the right of the image, also in white painted letters. When Forbes Field was opened it was one of the first great Major League ballparks. This pennant celebrates the new stadium, then considered one of the great architectural and engineering marvels of the time. This is the first example of this magnificent rarity we have ever seen. Extremely attractive and in extraordinary condition. The painted areas remain fully intact with only minimal crazing. Length: 23 inches. Excellent condition. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500.
